Enable a Feature

In this article, you will learn how to enable a new Aident feature in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

Prerequisites

  • The Feature Management - Admin permission set must be assigned to your user account.

Review Affected Data

Some features require a data upgrade when enabled. The Requires Data Upgrade flag indicates if such an update is necessary.

Warning

If a feature is marked as "one-way," it can't be disabled once enabled.

Steps to Review and Manage Data Upgrades:

  1. Click "Review Data":
This action opens a detailed view displaying the type of data involved and the number of records that will be affected by the required data upgrade.

  2. Decide When to Perform the Data Upgrade:
After reviewing the affected data, choose whether to run the data migration immediately or schedule it for a less active time to minimize the impact on system performance.

Enable a Feature

Enable a new feature across the system for all users.

Steps to Enable a Feature:

  1. Review Feature Details:
If you're unsure about the functionality or impact of the feature, click the "Learn More" link to access additional details and documentation.

  2. Click "Enable":
Begin the activation process for the selected feature.

  3. Verify Activation:
Confirm that the feature status updates to "All Users," indicating it's now enabled and available system-wide.

Update the Data

If a feature requires a data upgrade, it must be performed individually for each company. Depending on the size and impact of the upgrade, you can choose to execute it immediately or schedule it for later.

Note

Data upgrades need to be processed separately for each company.

Steps to Update the Data:

  1. Open "Show Data Update Status":
This action opens a page showing the status of the data update for each company. Ensure the update status is marked as "Pending" for the relevant company.

  2. Execute Data Upgrade:
Click "Update Data" to run the data upgrade immediately for the current company.

  3. Schedule Data Upgrade:
Alternatively, click "Schedule" to set a future date and time for the data upgrade. This action creates a job queue entry in Business Central for the selected company.

  4. Monitor Scheduled Upgrades:
If you scheduled the upgrade, review the Feature Data Update Status and verify the created job queue entries under the Navigate menu to ensure the upgrade is properly scheduled.

  5. Unschedule a Data Upgrade:
If needed, click "Unschedule" to cancel a scheduled data upgrade. This action deletes the corresponding job queue entry.
